Junior Scientist Program
Share |

Are you a middle or high school student interested in science? Then you are in the right place!

The Junior Scientist Program was developed in 2014 by students of the University of South Florida, College of Marine Science.  The primary goal of the program is to engage middle and high school students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) related activities during the St. Petersburg Science Festival. The junior scientists get to learn science first-hand from experts in the field and assist exhibitors in explaining their science to the public.

This year, Junior Scientist Program registration will be open from August 20th to October 6th.

Things to know about the Junior Scientist Program:

  • This is a great opportunity to expose students to STEAM education. Participating junior scientists help exhibitors during the school day and the festival. Junior scientists get to learn science first hand from experts in the field and assist exhibitors in explaining their science to the public. Students will receive a quick briefing on the exhibit topic before the activities take place.
  • Junior scientists need to be chaperoned by someone from their organization (18 years or older), parent or legal guardian. If junior scientists are participating with their school, our program can accept up to 10 students per school and each school should have one chaperone for every 5 students.
  • The dates are: Friday October 18th from 9:30am to 2:30pm, and Saturday October 19th from 9:00am to 4:00pm. Both days will be divided into 2 shifts.
